Chow Down is a gamified learning app that changes cooking into a competitive experience and allows chefs to track their progress with the meals they make. With each meal, you can rack up points and climb to the top of the leaderboards.

The first step was looking into how people primarily interact with recipes and how others have played off of that.

The first thing I noticed was a lack of user progress tracking. I also thought having meaningful connections with other users would make them more likely to return to the app.

The focus is on how users will interact with the app and how the information will be shared with them. There is also a premium level that delivers ingredients straight to your door.

User Testing
The app rewards points according to difficulty level and then ranks users' progress on the leaderboard. Each recipe is given a difficulty rating and allows users to learn at their own pace. Badges are awarded based on proficiency in cooking skills, frequency of meal preparation, and experimentation with foreign cuisine.
